This project was started in 2019 to create an exemplary farm in the Western Province by developing a two-acre vacant land owned by SahnodaFoundation in an environmentally friendly manner suitable for cultivation. Delicious and organic vegetables and fruit were planted using organic fertilizer, then they were intended for consumption in the elder's home, andthe surplus was intended to be sold. So far, a greenhouse of around 6500 square feet has been constructed and using modern technical devices and tools, the cultivation of food crops has started. In addition, outdoor crop cultivation has also been done systematically. This project has been designed to encourage people to garden, enabling them to eat healthy vegetables and fruits from their gardens and sell them if they are in surplus. Initially, vegetable plants, seeds and bags of organic fertilizers were given to one thousand selected families interested in gardening in the 15 GramaNiladhari domains of the Dehiwala Divisional Secretariat Division and the 13 GramaNiladhari Domains of the Ratmalana Divisional Secretariat Division. As the second step of this project, 15000 vegetable seedlings, seeds and 1500 5Kg bags of compost fertilizer were provided to schools and temples for gardening. For the beneficiaries of the horticulture program, under the supervision of the agricultural advisors of the Sahanoda Happy Green project, several WhatsApp groups have successfully carried out the project by providing counselling services on the insect threats and fungal problems faced in the cultivation activities.
